At the end of the summer semester, the Kunsthochschule Kassel organizes its grand annual show, the Rundgang (Round Tour). During the annual art festival, students across all the degree programmes of Visual Arts, Visual Communication, Product Design, Art Education and Art History and Theory present their often interdisciplinary works to the general public for the first time. An extensive event programme, which offers exhibitions, film presentations, talks, interactive media installations and much more, awaits visitors to the Round Tour. Various cafés and bars, which are ideal for taking a leisurely break while enjoying refreshing drinks and snacks, provide a frame for the multimedia event.
At the end of their studies, graduates and master-class students on the degree programmes in Visual Arts, Art Education, Product Design and Visual Communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel take their leave with a large-scale joint exhibition.
The exhibited positions provide an impressive demonstration of the high quality and diversity of contemporary art production in Kassel. The exam exhibition takes place at the beginning of each winter semester. This gives new students an opportunity to visit their fellows' representative final exhibition.
The exhibition format was initiated in the spring of 2012. The Rectorate of the Kunsthochschule Kassel offers students and teachers an exceptional presentation space for their work outcomes in the form of two exhibitions per semester.
The University of Kassel's exhibition series "University Board Plays Host" developed from the Kunsthochschule's successful initiative "Rectorate Plays Host". Twice a year in a direct exchange with the University, students are invited to present their works in Mönchebergstraße.
The "Interventions" exhibition project has been presenting works by young students at the Kunsthochschule Kassel once a year in the Kassel Regional Administrative Authority since as far back as 2002. Employees of the Regional Administrative Authority visit the Kunsthochschule's Round Tour every year. They make a selection here, inviting students to show their works to the authority am Steinweg, to modify them for the new location or to develop them specifically for the exhibition. What is shown in the Regional Administrative Authority half a year later may be completely different from what was seen at the Round Tour.
Over the years, a special partnership has been formed between the Kunsthochschule and the Regional Administrative Authority, which extends beyond the "Interventions" project. Whether the architectures of the administrative seat become the subject of artistic final projects, whether young graphic artists design publications by the Regional Administrative Authority (RAA) or whether the artistic collaboration is between RAA employees and students - the number and the intensity of the points of contact are increasing.
KASSELCOLLECTION is an assemblage of exemplifying pieces of work of the product design department of Kunsthochschule Kassel. It its 4th edition outstanding product designs are mutually curated by Professor Jakob Gebert and Lisa and Friederike Wübbeler.
Jakob Gebert's teachings features an attentiveness for the emergence of 'the third' in the making: 'the third' is something originating from the design process itself, not something the student or docent wishes or intends. At the same time all conceptions originate from a very distinct basis, varying from exploration and challenging of social conventions and their disruption, to the analysis and unexpected instrumentalization of design and production processes, as well as innovation of materials and practices. Hereby, the conception integrates the manufacturing processes and production techniques. The products are implemented in differing ways, confronted with reality, reviewed and field-tested.
