Studies in art history and philosophy at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and the University of Kassel as well as at the Università degli Studi di Siena (1986-1990). Doctoral scholarship in Siena (DAAD) and Floence (Landesgraduiertenstipendium des Landes Hessen für Nachwuchswissenschaftler, 1991-1995). Doctorate (1995): Der Freskenzyklus des Pellegrinaios in Santa Maria della Scala zu Siena. Historienmalerei und Wirklichkeit in einem Hospital der Frührenaissance (New York/ Zürich/ Hildesheim 2001). Research activities in Italy (1996-2000). Author of Neuen Pauly- Wissenschafts- und Rezeptionsgeschichte der Antike.
Lectures (including in Rome, Florence, Siena, Zurich, Rennes) on classical and modern art history. Worked on museum pedagogy for the (Museumslandschaft Kassel mhk) and at visitor services for documenta 11.

From 2000 to 2008 research associate at the documenta  Archive: co-conception and organization of the exhibitions, conferences, and catalog publication Wiedervorlage d5 (2002) and 50 Jahre documenta (2005) as well as co-author of the DFG proposal/research associate at the DFG project Mediencluster documenta und Gegenwartskunst (2006-2008).

Numerous teaching positions at the University of Kassel (since 1997), the University of Paderborn (since 2005), and the Georg August University Göttingen (2010-2012). Visiting professorship at the Kassel for middle and recent art history (2009). Visiting professorship for middle and recent art history at the University of Paderborn (2010/2011).

Conception and realization of education programs in art history: including documenta 13 – Seminar at the International Summer University of the University of Kassel and co-conception of the conference: Psychiatrie und documenta on the occasion of documenta 13 (with Prof. Dr. Ohlmeier or with Ludwig Noll Klinik Kassel, 2012).

Upper school teacher with responsibility for final exams (Abitur) – art history and art in Berlin and Oldenburg (2012 to the present). Appointment as examiner for specialist didactics in art pedagogy (since 2009, renewed in 2016).

Acceptance of Habilitation text (2014): Studien zur Rezeption der Renaissance und des Manierismus in der modernen und zeitgenössischen Kunst (2015). Habilitation: since 2015 private lecturer at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
