documenta Institute Discourse #5 – Vortrag von Bénédicte Savoy

In Frankreich der 1968er Jahre war es unter Akademiker/innen üblich, zu fragen: „D’où parles-tu?“ – „Von wo aus sprichst du?“, womit die theoretische und methodische Verortung der Sprecher/innen gemeint war. Gleichzeitig ging es dabei auch um die politische Ver[antw]ortung: Wer ist eigentlich der Mensch, der hier zu uns spricht? In Zeiten von fake news ist die Frage heute aktueller denn je. Bénédicte Savoy wird sich in ihrem Vortrag mit dem Platz von Archiven in der wissenschaftlichen Biografie einer Kunsthistorikerin des frühen 21. Jahrhunderts beschäftigen, mit Initialzündungen, Arbeitsweisen und politischem Verantwortungsbewusstsein.
Prof. Dr. Bénédicte Savoy wurde 1972 in Paris geboren. 2000 wurde sie in Paris als Absolventin der Ecole Normale Supérieure mit einer Arbeit über Napoleons Kunstraub in Deutschland promoviert. Seit 2003 ist sie Juniorprofessorin und seit 2009 Professorin für Kunstgeschichte der Moderne am Institut für Kunstwissenschaft und Historische Urbanistik an der Technischen Universität Berlin. Sie ist Mitglied vieler Gremien und wissenschaftlicher Beiräte und erhielt 2016 den Leibniz-Preis der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. Bénédicte Savoy ist Mitglied der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften sowie der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung. 2016 wurde sie zur Professorin am Collège de France in Paris berufen.
„documenta Institute Discourse“ lädt dazu ein, mit internationalen Sprecher/innen über das Archivieren, Forschen und Vermitteln nachzudenken. Dabei können neue und unerwartete Funktionen, Handlungsformen, Strategien und Imaginationen von Archiven, Forschungs- und Vermittlungsinstitutionen zur Sprache kommen. Die öffentliche Veranstaltungsreihe in Kooperation zwischen der documenta Professur an der Kunsthochschule Kassel und dem documenta archiv begleitet den Prozess der Entwicklung eines neuen documenta Instituts in Kassel.

In the France of the 1968 years, it was common for academics to ask, “D’où parles-tu?” – “From where do you speak?,” by which was meant the theoretical and methodological location of the speaker(s). At the same time, it also served to locate them politically: Who really is this person, here, addressing us? In the time of fake news, this question is more relevant than ever. In her lecture, Bénédicte Savoy will explore the place of archives within the academic biography of an early twenty-first-century art historian, initial sparks, and the sense of political responsibility.
Prof. Dr. Bénédicte Savoy was born in Paris in 1972. In 2000 she completed her doctorate at the École Normale Supérieure with a thesis on art theft carried out by Napoleon in Germany. Since 2003 she served as an assistant professor and, since 2009 she is Professor of Modern Art History at the Institute of Art Studies and Historical Urban Studies at the Technische Universität Berlin. She is a member of several boards and academic advisory committees. In 2016 she was awarded the Leibniz Prize by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Bénédicte Savoy is a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities as well as of the German Academy for Language and Literature. In 2016 she was made professor at the Collège de France in Paris.
“documenta Institute Discourse” invites to think together with international speakers about archives, research and education. This can lead to imaginations about unexpected functions, strategies, and ways of acting for archives, research and educational institutions. The public program is a collaboration between the documenta professor at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and the documenta archive. It is part of the process of establishing a new documenta Institute in Kassel.
