Cemile Sahin: Studio visits at the Kunsthochschule Kassel

Cemile Sahin offers studio visits for students of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

On Thursday, Oct. 19, 7-8 p.m., the film Four Ballads for my Father - Spring (2022) by artist Cemile Sahin will be presented at the Fridericianum. The work is the first part of a cinematic narrative that deals with the social, economic and political consequences of the Southeast Anatolia Project (Turkish: Güneydoğu Anadolu Projesi, GAP).

Cemile Sahin's artistic practice is characterized by the interplay of word and image and includes film, photography, sculpture, sound and installation as well as literature. In quotations and allusions to various genres, she explores thematic fields such as surveillance, (state) violence, and the instrumentalization of media, as well as the significance of different perspectives for the writing of history.

Cemile Sahin (*1990 in Wiesbaden, lives and works in Berlin) studied fine arts at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Her works have already been shown in solo exhibitions such as Gewehr im Schrank at Nassauischer Kunstverein in Wiesbaden (2023) or A Song of Tigris & Euphrates at Kunsthalle Osnabrück (2022). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions such as the Biennale de Lyon (2022), at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn (2022), at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin (2021), at the Kunstverein Hamburg (2020), and at the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig (2019). Her debut novel Taxi was published by Korbinian Verlag in 2019, followed by Alle Hunde sterben at Aufbau Verlag in 2020.

As part of a cooperation between the Fridericianum and the Kunsthochschule Kassel, artists* in the FF - Live at the Fridericianum event series offer studio visits for KhK students.
