The New Man, The Announcer, The Constructor. El Lissitzky: Self-Portrait as the Kestner Gesellschaft

The Art History and Aesthetics (Team Hemken) of the Kunsthochschule Kassel is represented in a current exhibition of the Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover: The New Man, The Announcer, The Constructor. El Lissitzky: Self-Portrait as the Kestner Gesellschaft.

The Self-Portrait as Kestner Society is the title of the show July 8-Oct. 1, 2023) and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first solo exhibition of Constructivist El Lissitzky held at the Kestner Gesellschaft. The exhibition, arranged by Adam Budak, features not only exhibits by Lissitzky but also works of international contemporary art that deal with the avant-gardist's work. It is at the same time a self-thematization of the institution, which to this day is dedicated to the promotion of progressive contemporary art.

The Art History and Aesthetics (Team Hemken) of the Kunsthochschule Kassel contributes to this exhibition: the virtual reconstruction of the International Art Exhibition 1926 in Dresden, realized by the art science, also shows El Lissitzky's 'Room for Constructive Art', which found its museum destination only a little later as the Cabinet of the Abstract (today: reconstruction in the Sprengel Museum Hannover).
