Empowerment workshop for queer students

In the workshop, we would like to look at structural and institutional queer hostility in the context of studying, its effects and questions about social and subjective ideas of health: What experiences do we have as queer people in everyday life? How do these experiences affect my studies at the Kunsthochschule and other departments at the University of Kassel? How can I recognize queer hostility and take action against it? How can care for health be shaped in a self-determined and solidary way? With a mix of content input, interactive exercises, individual and group work, we would like to approach possibilities of self-care, care and community care as resistant practices against (structural) discrimination. In doing so, we want to use different approaches and build on the perspectives, experiences and questions brought in by the participants.

The workshop is aimed at queer students at the University of Kassel so that they can talk about their experiences in a safer space. We understand queer as an umbrella term. Thus, the workshop is aimed at all persons from the LGBTIQA+ spectrum and_or persons whose identities are marginalized and devalued in terms of gender, desire and_or sexuality.

Speakers: Ivo Boenig (dey/denen) is a trans_queer activist and is currently doing his doctorate on health concepts in the life stories of trans and non-binary people. Dey is interested in questions about the connections between queer life, health, biographies and bodies - which dey would like to share more with others.

Zora Lovreković (zora/ no pronouns) works as an anti-discrimination consultant and trainer for gender and sexual diversity. As part of her final thesis, Zora dealt with emancipatory care practices within trans communities. These and new questions around care as a resistant practice continue to accompany Zora.
