TRACES/Discussion event with Mischa Kuball at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
'public preposition' is the title of a series of projects, performances and works in the oeuvre of media artist Mischa Kuball. The conceptual artist - Professor for Public Art / Public Space at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne - focuses on public space in its material givenness as well as in its abstract structures: demonstration trains, catwalks, stages or spectator stands are temporarily installed and mark those formations and devices with which the abstract category 'public' is not only visualized but also staged as offers for action. Although these various actions - realized in numerous cities worldwide - refer to original situations and historical occurrences, they avoid making a concrete statement in terms of content. They are rather artistic stimuli, addressed (not only) to an art audience, in order to stimulate participation and reflection in social processes and structures. Mischa Kuball's work can be located in the field of tension between science, politics and art.
The public event aims to approach Kuball's concept in a dialogical way: After Mischa Kuball has introduced his projects, Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Hemken (Kunsthochschule Kassel) invites the audience to enter into conversation with the artist. The event is part of TRACES and is connected to the current seminar 'Exhibition and Discourse' of Art Studies at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
