Seminar and exhibition project with the artist Shirin Sabahi

Project kick-off in the framework of the guest lecturer program "An empty Space" in cooperation with the BPA//Berlin program for artists. The project presentation will take place on April 20, 4 p.m. in the lecture hall of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

How is artistic practice transported to the outside and translated into an exhibition? What happens before, during and after an exhibition? Where are its limits? And what distinguishes an exhibition? This two-semester course examines exhibition making as one of the most important tools artists use to present their work.

In doing so, the course combines theoretical and applied perspectives on the possibilities and limitations of exhibiting art. The goal is to create a space to reflect on one's own work, its presentation, and more generally on the forms and possibilities of exhibiting art. New experimental approaches beyond current practice can and should be explored. The resulting project will be presented at the School of Art's Exhibition Hall in January 2024.

The course is intended for students of the School of Art who wish to expand their knowledge with regard to exhibiting art. In addition, to individuals or collectives in art studies who are interested in hands-on experience in curating or writing. Students of visual communication are also invited who are interested in visual identity or who want to participate in the production of printed materials in the context of exhibitions.

Participants commit to participate in SoSe 2023 and WiSe 2023/24. Please send us your application by April 23, 2023 via email (in a one-page PDF file, including your degree program, semester, and a few sentences about your motivation to participate in English or German) to: susanne.maertens[at]uni-kassel.de.
