Störe meine Kreise

From July 9 to 22, the Kasseler Kunstverein presents the exhibition "Störe meine Kreise" by Aileen Ahlert, Louisa Boettner, Annagenia Jacob, Katharina Jaeger and Huizi Yao.

"Störe meine Kreise" shows five artistic positions by graduates of the Kunsthochschule Kassel. Using various media such as photography, video, sound, text, sculpture and installation, Aileen Ahlert, Louisa Boettner, Annagenia Jacob, Katharina Jaeger and Huizi Yao provide insights into personal challenges, explore alternatives to everyday patterns of thought and action, and shake up social structures. Humorous, vulnerable, or even playful, the works circle the themes of "family," "care," "body," "gender," and "work." In doing so, they re-explore the boundaries between these themes. The works explore the shapes and forms of cycles and patterns in a variety of ways, bringing into focus aspects of repetition, development, and change. They address issues such as the transition from childhood to adulthood, family or generational change, and the multiple challenges that can arise throughout life.

Katharina Jaeger's autobiographical work "Die Schwerkraft des Kinderwunsches" (The Gravity of the Desire for Children) addresses unwanted childlessness by photographically examining attempts at artificial insemination.

Aileen Ahlert shows photographs, videos and assemblages that revolve around the life of her grandmother, whose mental health is declining. In other works, she artistically explores her East German heritage and her own mental health.

Annagenia Jacob addresses her own social conditioning in her multi-layered multimedia installation, humorously questioning family structures, gender roles, role models, and the concept of growing up.

In her work "Menstrual Fountain - Continuation of Positive Representations of Menstruation," Louisa Boettner denounces the fact that menstruation is considered taboo, disgusting, unhygienic in a male-coded society of consumption and shame. Huizi Yao's photo series "Sisyphus" focuses on a fundamental component of the human experience: the feeling of absurdity.

Through composition and association, Huizi Yao creates a visual space that is absurd, confusing, and humorous. With the title "Don't disturb my circles", the exhibition aims to highlight and consciously demand the existential and fruitful moment of disturbance and exchange. The image of the circle is meant to help reflect mechanisms of social exclusion.

The exhibition invites reflection on social norms, community, and the invisible work of caring in a changing world.
