Private Lecturer for Aesthetics and General Art Science

PD Dr. phil. habil. Zhuofei Wang, Chinese-German scholar, was assistant professor at the University of Leipzig (2010-2011) and the University of Kassel (2013-2019). From 2019 to 2020 she was Vertretungsdozentin for apl. Prof. Dr. Katrin Wille at the University of Hildesheim. From April 2020 to March 2022, she was member of Koselleck project "Geschichten der Philosophie in globaler Perspektive" (Histories of Philosophy in a Global Perspective) (leader: Prof. Rolf Elberfeld, sponsored by the German National Research Foundation) at the University of Hildesheim. In January 2021, she completed her project of habilitation (qualification for professorship) at the University of Kassel and received the Venia Legendi for the field of aesthetics and general art history (Ästhetik und allgemeine Kunstwissenschaft). From April 2021 to the present, she is Privatdozentin in the Department of Art History and Aesthetics at the University of Kassel.

Her interests cover intercultural philosophy, phenomenology, aesthetics, theory of art, image theory, media culture and design theory. Her book „Atmosphären-Ästhetik: Die Verflochtenheit von Natur, Kunst und Kultur“ will be published in 2023 by Karl Alber Verlag (Freiburg). In addition, she edited special issues and published many papers in renowned journals such as „Zeitschrift für Ästhetik und allgemeine Kunstwissenschaft“ (ZÄK), “Polylog. Journal for Intercultural Philosophizing” (Vienna) as well as in leading publishers such as Routledge (London), Walter de Gruyter (Berlin) and Transcript (Bielefeld).

Board member of the German Society for Aesthetics (DGAE) (2018-2021); current Assistant Secretary General of the International Association for Aesthetics (IAA), board member of the German Society for Interdisciplinary Image Science (GIB), member of the International Advisory Board of the online journal Contemporary Aesthetics (CA), member of the editorial board of the journal "IMAGE"; reviewer for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), Palgrave Macmillan (London), Lexington Books (Washington DC), Open Philosophy (De Gruyter), AM Journal of Art and Media Studies (Belgrade), Art Style | Art & Culture International Magazine (New York/São Paulo), Academia Letters.

Together with Prof. Goda Plaum and Prof. Roberto Rubio, she will organize the online international conference “Making Images: Intercultural Dialogues” with the exhibition “Image Chain” (https://www.makingimages.net/, October 6-7, 2013, Ludwigsburg).
